General information about the System
FIBARO is a wireless smart home automation system, based on the Z-Wave protocol. All available devices can be controlled through a computer (PC or Mac), smartphone or tablet. Z-Wave devices are not only receivers, but can also repeat the signal, increasing the Z-Wave network range. It gives advantage over the traditional wireless systems that require a direct link between transmitter and receiver in which case the construction of the building can affect the network range negatively.
Every Z-Wave network has its unique identification number (home ID). Multiple independent networks can exist in one building without interfering. Transmission security of the FIBARO System is comparable to wired systems.
The Z-Wave technology is the leading solution in smart home automation. There is a wide range of Z-Wave devices that are mutually compatible, independently of manufacturer. It enables the system to evolve and expand over time. For more information visit: www.fibaro.com.

Description
FIBARO Wall Plug is a remotely controlled plug-in switch with the ability to measure power and energy consumption.
It uses a LED frame to visualize the current load and operating mode with color changing illumination.
Our smart plug makes it possible to control electrical devices in a convenient and maintenance-free way.
Main features of FIBARO Wall Plug:
- Compatible with type A sockets and plugs.
- Compatible with any Z-Wave or Z-Wave Plus Controller.
- Supports Z-Wave network Security Modes: S0 with AES-128 encryption and S2 with PRNG-based encryption.
- Easy to install – simply plug the device into the mains socket.
- Works as a Z-Wave signal repeater.
- Actively meters power and energy consumption for the plugged device.
- Indicates the current value of the load and operating mode by the multi-color LED frame.
This device can be used with all devices with the Z-Wave Plus certificate and should be compatible with such devices produced by other manufacturers.
Z-Wave Controller must support the Z-Wave Security Mode to fully utilize the product.
Basic activation
Basic activation
- Plug the device into a socket near the main Z-Wave controller.
- Set the main controller in the add mode (Security/non-Security Mode). See the controller manual.
- Quickly, triple click the button located on the casing.
- Wait for the device to be added to the system.
- Adding is confirmed by the controller.
- Plug a device you want to control into the Wall Plug.
- Test the device by turning it on and off using the button.
When powered, the device indicates the Z-Wave status with the color of LED frame:
- Green – the device is already added to the Z-Wave network.
- Red – the device isn’t added to any Z-Wave network.
Adding device
Adding device
Adding (Inclusion) – Z-Wave device learning mode, which enables adding the device to the existing Z-Wave network.
To add the device to the Z-Wave network:
- Plug the device into a socket near the main Z-Wave controller.
- The LED frame glows red, signaling that it isn’t added (reset or remove the device otherwise).
- Set the main controller in the add mode (Security/non-Security Mode). See the controller manual.
- Quickly, triple click the button located on the casing.
- If you are adding in S2 authenticated mode, type in the device PIN code (underlined part of the public key available on the device or in the manual).
- Wait for the adding process to end.
- Adding is confirmed by the Z-Wave controller message.
In case of problems with adding the device, reset the device and repeat the adding procedure.
Removing device
Removing device
Removing (Exclusion) – Z-Wave device learning mode, which enables removing the device from the existing Z-Wave network.
To remove the device from the Z-Wave network:
- Plug the device into a socket near the main Z-Wave controller.
- The LED frame glows green signaling that it’s added (removing is not necessary otherwise).
- Set the main controller in the remove mode. See the controller manual.
- Quickly, triple click the button located on the casing.
- Wait for the removing process to end.
- Removing is confirmed by the Z-Wave controller message.
Removing the Wall Plug from the Z-Wave network restores all default parameters of the device.
Operating device
Controlling Wall Plug with button
The Wall Plug has a button, enabling the use of menu and performance the following actions:
- 1 x click: turn the controlled device ON/OFF, confirm the selected menu option (if menu is active).
- 3 x click: add/remove the device to/from a Z-Wave network.
- Hold: enter/navigate through the menu.
To avoid the risk of electrical shock, don’t operate the device with wet or moist hands.
Controlling Wall Plug with Home Center controller
After adding, the Wall Plug is represented in the Home Center interface with two icons. It enables turning the device on and off and displays the current active power and cumulative energy consumption.
Menu
The menu enables Z-Wave network actions.
In order to use the menu:
- Press and hold the button.
- Wait for the device to indicate desired position with a color:
GREEN – erase energy consumption memory
VIOLET – Z-Wave network range test
YELLOW – device reset - Release the button.
- Click the button to confirm selection.
Menu is preceded by white flashes of the LED frame – release the button if you want to disable/enable the LED frame.
Visual indications
The Wall Plug has a LED frame, signaling the sensor operating modes and current active power consumption. The visual indicator can also inform of the Z-Wave network range.
Visual indicator frame signaling modes:
- Active power consumption – by default, when the device is turned ON, the color varies depending on the current power consumption.
- Z-Wave network inclusion status – once plugged into a mains socket the device signals it with blinking light (green – added, red – not added).
- Range of the Z-Wave network – signaled with color depending on the type of communication or the lack of it (only in range tester mode).
- Menu position – signaled with the color assigned to a position.
- Ongoing software update – signaled with blinking cyan light.
- Hardware fault state – error in communication with radio chip, device secured, unplug the device and plug it back into the socket.
Disabling visual indications:
Visual indication frame can be turned off for status signaling (turned ON/OFF, power consumption). That means each status change is signaled by a short white blink of the frame. Disabling it doesn’t change operation of the device.
To disable the LED frame:
- Insert the Wall Plug in a socket.
- Press and hold the button for about 3 seconds.
- Release the button after the LED frame starts pulsing white light.
To restore visual indications perform the above procedure again.
Disabling the LED frame indications also affects alarm signalization.
Resetting the device to factory settings
The reset procedure enables restoring the device back to its factory settings, which means all information about the Z-Wave controller and user configuration is deleted.
- Make sure the device is powered.
- Press and hold the button.
- Wait for the LED frame to glow yellow (3rd menu position).
- Release the button.
- Click the button once to confirm selection.
- After a few seconds the device restarts with factory settings, which is signaled with the red frame color.
Resetting the device isn’t the recommended way of removing the device from the Z-Wave network. Use reset procedure only if the primary controller is missing or inoperable. Certain device removal can be achieved by the procedure of removing described in the “Removing device” secition above.
Power and energy consumption
Power and energy consumption
The Wall Plug enables monitoring the active power and energy consumption. Data is sent to the main Z-Wave controller.
Measuring is carried out by the most advanced micro-controller technology, assuring the maximum accuracy and precision (+/- 1% for loads greater than 5 W).
Power and energy are reported according to parameters 11-15.
For loads under 5 W power is reported for every 0.3 W change.
Electric active power – power that the energy receiver is changing into work or heat. The unit of active power is Watt [W].
Electric energy – energy consumed by a device through a time period. Consumers of electricity in households are billed by suppliers on the basis of active power used in a given unit of time. Most commonly measured in kilowatt-hour [kWh]. One kilowatt-hour is equal to one kilowatt of power consumed over the period of one hour, 1 kWh = 1000 Wh.
Resetting consumption memory
The Wall Plug enables erasing stored consumption data (turning it off/on or removing it from the socket doesn’t erase consumption):
- Make sure the device is powered.
- Press and hold the button.
- Release the button when the LED frame glows green (1st menu position).
- Press the button briefly.
Association
Association
Association (linking devices) – enables the direct control of other devices within the Z-Wave system network e.g. Dimmer, Relay Switch, Roller Shutter or scene (can be controlled only with a Z-Wave controller).
Association ensures direct transfer of control commands between devices. It’s performed without participation of the main controller.
The Wall Plug provides association of three groups:
- 1st Association Group: Lifeline – reports the device status and enables assigning single device only (main controller by default).
- 2nd Association Group: On/Off (Button) – devices in this group are switched on or off when relay status is changed using the button (uses Basic command class).
- 3rd Association Group: On/Off (Plug power) – devices in this group are switched on or off depending on the current load of plugged device (uses Basic command class).
The Wall Plug in 2nd and 3rd group enables the control of up to 5 regular or multichannel devices per one association group. The LifeLine group is reserved solely for the controller and only one node can be assigned.
2nd association group commands are sent only in case of manual operation through the button. 3rd association group commands are sent automatically, depending on parameters 21 to 27.
To add an association (using the Home Center controller):
- Go to the device options by clicking the icon:
- Select the Advanced tab.
- Click the Setting Association button.
- Specify to which group and what devices are to be associated.
- Save the changes.
- Wait for the configuration process to end.
Meter Report [0x02] in Lifeline Group reports energy by default.
Z-Wave
Z-Wave range test
The Wall Plug has a built in Z-Wave network main controller range tester.
To test the main controller range:
- Press and hold the button.
- Wait for the LED frame to glow violet (2nd menu position).
- Release the button.
- Click the button once to confirm selection.
- Visual indicator indicates the Z-Wave network range (range signaling modes described below).
- To exit Z-Wave range test, press the button briefly.
To enable the Z-Wave range test, the device must be added to the Z-Wave controller. Testing can stress the network, so it’s recommended to perform the test only in special cases.
Z-Wave range tester signaling modes
- Visual indicator pulsing green – the Wall Plug attempts to establish direct communication with the main controller. If a direct communication attempt fails, the device tries to establish routed communication through other modules, which is signaled by visual indicator pulsing yellow.
- Visual indicator glowing green – the Wall Plug communicates with the main controller directly.
- Visual indicator pulsing yellow – the Wall Plug tries to establish a routed communication with the main controller through other modules (repeaters).
- Visual indicator glowing yellow – the Wall Plug communicates with the main controller through the other modules. After 2 seconds the device retries to establish direct communication with the main controller, which is signaled with visual indicator pulsing green.
- Visual indicator pulsing violet – the Wall Plug communicates at the maximum distance of the Z-Wave network. If connection proves successful it is confirmed with yellow glow. It’s not recommended to use the device at the range limit.
- Visual indicator glowing red – the Wall Plug can’t connect to the main controller directly or through another Z-Wave network device (repeater).
Communication mode of the Wall Plug can switch between direct and the one using routing, especially if the device is at the limit of the direct range.

Advanced parameters
Advanced parameters
The Wall Plug operation can be customised to user needs. The settings are available in the FIBARO interface as simple options that can be chosen by selecting the appropriate box.
In order to configure the Wall Plug (using the Home Center controller):
- Go to the device options by clicking the icon:
- Select the Advanced tab.
- Modify values of chosen parameters.
- Save the changes.
Entering invalid value of parameter results in failure to set the value and triggers response with Application Rejected or Supervision Command Class frame (depending on the controller).
General settings
This parameter determines how the Wall Plug reacts in the event of power supply failure (e.g. power outage or unplugging the device from the electrical outlet).
After the power supply is back on, the Wall Plug can be restored to previous state or remain switched off.

This function allows to turn off the controlled device when the defined power consumption is exceeded.
The controlled device can be turned back on by pressing the button or sending a control frame. By default this function is inactive.

Power and energy measurement
The default values of the parameters suit most types of devices. They were selected to show the power values in real time, without overloading the Z-Wave network in the process. In specific cases it can be necessary to modify the default settings to optimize the Z-Wave network use. In extreme cases it is recommended to turn off reporting completely and configure power polling or periodic reports in the Z-Wave controller.
The Wall Plug reports the power load with specified frequency. The configuration parameters described below help specify how frequently the power load is reported.
In extreme cases, reports can be sent every second if rapid and significant load power changes occur. Frequent reporting may overload the Z-Wave network so these parameters settings should reflect significant changes in power load only.
This parameter determines the minimum percentage change in active power consumption (in relation to the previously reported value) that results in sending a new power report.

Setting parameters 24, 25, 26, 27 to appropriate value results in:
0 – turning off the associated devices.
1-99 – forcing level of associated devices.

Upper power threshold, which is used in parameter 23. UP value can’t be lower than the value specified in parameter 22.

Alarms
Define the Z-Wave network alarms to which the Wall Plug responds.

This parameter defines how the Wall Plug responds to alarms (device status change).
In case of values 1 or 2 the Wall Plug operates normally and the LED frame signals an alarm based on the time defined in parameter 32 or until the alarm is canceled.
In case of values 5 to 50 the Wall Plug doesn’t report status change, power changes, and it ignores BASIC SET command frames. After the time defined in parameter 32 or after the alarm cancellation, connected device is set to the previous state.

5-50 (0.5-5.0 s, step 0.1 s) – cyclically change the device state with set period
You can cancel the alarm by pressing and holding the button.
This parameter specifies the duration of the alarm state. If the device sending an alarm frame through the Z-Wave network sets alarm duration as well, this setting is ignored.

Color settings
This parameter determines the maximum active power value which causes the LED frame to flash violet when exceeded. This function is active only when parameter 41 is set to 1 or 2.

When set to 1 or 2, the LED frame color changes depending on active power and parameter 40. Other colors are set permanently and don’t depend on power consumption.
