Motion Sensor (FGBHMS-001)

motion_hkFIBARO Motion Sensor is a HomeKit-enabled multi-sensor using Bluetooth® low energy wireless technology.
Along with detecting motion, the accessory measures temperature and light intensity.
Built-in accelerometer detects tampering with the accessory.
Every time the movement is detected, Motion Sensor will glow in different colour depending on the temperature.

First launch

1. Turn the cover counter-clockwise and open it.

2. Remove the battery blocker and check if the battery is placed correctly.

The accessory will glow red – it is ready to be paired.

3. Close the cover and turn it clockwise, dots on the casing should align.

4. Open the FIBARO app and tap + icon.

Application will guide you through the pairing process.

  2. Press and hold the button.
  3. When the LED glows yellow, release the button.
  4. Click the button again to confirm.

Functionalities

Motion detection
The Motion Sensor detects movement using PIR sensor and reports it to your iOS device.
Blink of LED indicates detected motion. Color of blink is dependent on current ambient temperature (smooth transition through blue, green and red). Brightness of blink is adjusted by measured light intensity.
NOTE: Use app that allows to configure parameters to adjust sensitivity, sustain time and LED indication for motion detection.

Tamper detection
The Motion Sensor detects tampering when accessory is moved and reports it to your iOS device. Tampering is indicated with an alternate blinking in red, blue and white.

Temperature measuring
The Motion Sensor measures ambient temperature every 5 minutes. If the measured temperature differs from previously reported
by at least 2°C (3.6°F), accessory reports it to your iOS device.
NOTE: The accessory measures temperature in the place of installation. Remember that temperature near the ceiling may differ from that on eye-level or the floor.

Battery level measuring
The Motion Sensor measures battery level every 24 hours and reports it to your iOS device. Additionally, if battery level is below 15%, the accessory will report low level battery status to your iOS device.

Light intensity measuring
The Motion Sensor measures light intensity. If the measured light intensity differs from previously reported by at least 200 lux, accessory reports it to your iOS device.
NOTE: The accessory measures light intensity in the place of installation, not where the sensor is pointed.

PIR sensor malfunction detection (Fault Code 1)
The Motion Sensor detects malfunction of PIR sensor (responsible for motion detection) and reports it to your iOS device.
Getting Fault Code 1 warning means that the accessory is damaged and should be returned to the distributor for the warranty (if still valid).

Configurable parameters
Use app that allows to configure parameters to adjust operation of Motion Sensor.

1. Motion detection – sensor sensitivity
This parameter allows to set sensitivity of PIR sensor used for motion detection.
The higher the value of this parameter, the higher the sensitivity.
Available settings:
1 - low sensitivity
2 - medium sensitivity (default)
3 - high sensitivity

2. Tamper – sensor sensitivity
This parameter allows to set sensitivity of tamper detection.
The higher the value of this parameter, the higher the sensitivity.
Available settings:
0 - tamper disabled
1 - low sensitivity
2 - medium sensitivity (default)
3 - high sensitivity

3. Motion detection – LED indication
This parameter allows to choose how the LED indicator will behave after detecting motion.
Available settings:
0 – LED indications disabled
1 – color dependent on temperature* (default)
2 – flashlight mode**
3 – white, 4 – red, 5 – green, 6 – blue, 7 – yellow, 8 – cyan, 9 – magenta
* Color is a smooth transition from blue through green to red in range 18-30°C (64.4-86°F).
** In flashlight mode the LED provides white light with higher brightness.

4. Tamper – LED indication
This parameter allows to choose if accessory will indicate tampering using LED (alternate blinking in red, blue and white).
Available settings:
0 - tamper indication disabled
1 - tamper indication enabled (default)

5. Motion detection - sustain time
This parameter allows to set how long the information about detected motion is sustained by the accessory. Each subsequent motion detection causes time to be counted from the beginning.
Available settings: 1-32767 – sustain time in seconds (dafault - 30s)

Accessory

1.Why I cannot pair my accessory?

There are few actions to be done:
a) Make sure your accessory is powered on.
b) Make sure your accessory is close to your mobile device.
c) Make sure you use a correct setup code.
d) If you own more than one identical accessory, use the ‘Identify’ function.
e) You may need to reset the accessory if it’s not connecting, or if it’s already connected to another home.

2. Why my accessory is not shown on adding screen?

There are few actions to be done:
a) Make sure your accessory is powered on.
b) Make sure your accessory is close to your mobile device.
c) If you just connected your accessory, wait a moment, then try again.
d) You may need to reset the accessory if it’s not connecting, or if it’s already connected to another home.

3. I have just reset my accessory, but it’s still visible in the app. Why?

The accessory needs to be removed manually using the application interface.

4. I removed my accessory manually using the application interface, but cannot pair it again. Why?

It’s necessary to perform the reset procedure of the accessory according to its manual.

5. The accessory was paired successfully, but it doesn’t report the status correctly. Why?

There are two possible causes of such situation:
a) The accessory is out of range. Come closer with your mobile device and try again.
b) The battery is empty and needs replacing.

6. Is it possible to power the accessory using the external power supply?

Unfortunately, not. Motion Sensor may be only battery powered (CR123A 3.0V DC).

7. Why I notice false motion detections?

Moving objects such as trees blowing in the wind, cars passing by, household fans and moving masses of air and heat within detection area of the sensor can cause false motion detection.

8. Can I mount the sensor outside?

Unfortunately, not – indoor use only.

9. I received a tampering notification, but the accessory stays safe. What is wrong?

There are two possible causes of such situation:
a) The sensor’s cover is not closed. Make sure the dots on the casing align.
b) Someone accidentally moved the sensor.

10. My battery is low, how to replace it?

Take off the cover, remove the empty battery, insert a new one, and close the cover.

1. What is Apple HomeKit?
HomeKit is a new framework for home automation developed by Apple. HomeKit technology provides an easy, secure way to control HomeKit-enabled accessories using Siri on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. HomeKit certification ensures that all accessories will work together flawlessly.

2. What is a HomeKit accessory?

Accessories are HomeKit-enabled products that have an official "Works with Apple HomeKit" badge on their packaging. These accessories are certified by Apple under its MFi Program.

3. Will HomeKit accessories work with Home Center controller?

No, that feature is not available at the moment.

4. Do Z-Wave devices work with HomeKit?

No, HomeKit uses different communication protocols. Some of the manufacturers might provide Bridges to enable them to work with HomeKit.

5. Will Siri be able to control HomeKit?

Yes, you can control and ask for status of HomeKit accessories, created rooms and scenes. When you lock your device, some accessories can’t be controlled by Siri commands. For example, you need to unlock your device before you can use Siri to unlock your door.

6. Will Siri be able to control Home Center controller?

No, that feature is not available at the moment.

7. Can I control Home Center controller with Apple HomeKit?

No, that feature is not available at the moment.

8. How does FIBARO support HomeKit?

FIBARO launched a new Motion, Flood and Door/Window Sensor that use BLE and work with HomeKit. Moreover, we will release a new app that can control the HomeKit accessories. More accessories are coming soon!

9. Do HomeKit accessories require a gateway/controller?

No, your iOS device (iOS 9.3 or newer) plays the role of gateway/controller, but Apple TV or iPad (iOS 10 or newer) will enable you to use them remotely through the iCloud.

10. Will the current FIBARO app for iPhone be capable of controlling HomeKit accessories?

No, but new app called FIBARO for HomeKit Connected Devices, designed to control HomeKit is available in AppStore.

11. Can I control my HomeKit accessories when away from home?

Yes, but you need a HomePod, an Apple TV 4K, Apple TV (4th generation), or iPad.

12. Is an Apple TV required to control HomeKit accessories?

No, but it will extend the Bluetooth range and allow you to use a remote connection through the iCloud. Alternatively, an iPad (iOS 10 or newer) or HomePod can be used.

13. Can I control HomeKit accessories out of the Bluetooth range of an iOS device?

Yes, you can control them through Apple TV (4th generation) or other Wi-Fi devices that support tunneling if they are in accessory range.

14. Why do I notice a delay in communication with HomeKit accessories?

HomeKit accessories which use BLE are placed on standby to reduce battery usage. First communication when on standby will wake it up and subsequent commands should be performed without delay till next standby.

15. Do I have to use the FIBARO app to control FIBARO HomeKit accessories?

No, but it is recommended. FIBARO accessories should work with every HomeKit compatible app.

16. I lost my HomeKit Setup Code, is there a way to recover it?

In order to recover the Setup Code of your device, contact FIBARO Support (e-mail: [email protected]) and attach proof of purchase of the device and its serial number, or a photo of the device with a visible serial number.

17. I have paired multiple identical accessories, how can I distinguish which is which?

Use the “Identify” function in your mobile app and the chosen accessory will identify itself by blinking or making a sound (according to its manual).

18. Are FIBARO HomeKit accessories certified by Apple?

Yes, every FIBARO product that has “Works with Apple HomeKit” badge on its packaging is certified by Apple under its MFi Program.

19. What iOS devices are compatible with FIBARO accessories?

Controlling this HomeKit-enabled accessory from FIBARO requires an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iOS 9.3 or newer.

20. Does HomeKit work with Apple Watch?

Yes, just add your accessory to favourites and they will be visible in Control Center and Apple Watch.

21. Do I need an iCloud account to use HomeKit?

No, but it is recommended. Every accessory you pair is assigned to your iCloud account and allows you to use it with all your iOS devices.

22. How can I check whether a product will work with HomeKit?
