How can I connect Amazon Alexa with FIBARO System?

FIBARO System uses two skills to connect with Alexa: Smart Home skill and custom skill.

 

FIBARO Smart Home Skill provides basic functionality but does not require voice activating it before using commands.

To add Smart Home skill:

  1. Open Amazon Alexa app.
  2. Select Smart Home from the menu.
  3. Tap Get More Smart Home Skills.
  4. Enter “FIBARO” in the search field.
  5. Tap FIBARO Smart Home Skill for you region.
  6. Tap Enable Skill.
  7. Enter e-mail and password for your FIBARO ID account with added Home Center controller.
  8. Tap Log In.

 
FIBARO Custom Skill provides additional functionalities (like camera, room, FIBARO RGBW control etc.), but requires “Ask/Tell FIBARO to” before command or activating it with “launch/start FIBARO”.

To add custom skill:

  1. Open Amazon Alexa app.
  2. Select Skills from the menu.
  3. Enter “FIBARO” in the search field.
  4. Tap FIBARO Custom Skill for you region.
  5. Tap Enable Skill.
  6. Enter e-mail and password for your FIBARO ID account with added Home Center controller.
  7. Tap Log In.

Yes, by logging to the same FIBARO ID account while enabling Skills.

Yes, by using same Alexa account on multiple devices or login to the same FIBARO ID while enabling Skills on each device.

Devices are refreshed every hour. You can also use “Discover devices” command to refresh them instantly.

Only when using FIBARO Custom Skill. You can also say “launch FIBARO” or “start FIBARO” to use custom skill commands without using “ask FIBARO to…” for a period of time.

When you say “Alexa” the blue LED ring on top of your Alexa device will light up to notify you that it is ready to hear your command.


By using “Ask/tell FIBARO to list Home Center devices”.


Use “Ask/tell FIBARO to list Home Center devices” command.


Prefer common English words as names of devices, e.g. “kitchen light”, “corridor camera”.


Try changing name of device used in command.


In Home Center configuration interface:

  1. Open device configuration (wrench icon).
  2. Select “Advanced” tab.
  3. In “Controlled Device” field select “Wall lamp”, “Garden lamp”, “Lighting” or “Bedside lamp”.
  4. Save configuration.


Make sure:

  1. Your Home Center is properly connected to Remote Access via FIBARO ID.
  2. Your Home Center is first on the list of connected gateways on home.fibaro.com.
  3. Your Home Center is updated to version 4.112 or newer.


For your safety Alexa service does not allow to control devices connected with security. Devices of types listed below and scenes that control such devices will not be discovered:

  • Cameras
  • Doorlocks (e.g. Kwikset, Shlage)
  • Intercoms (e.g. Mobotix, Helios)
  • Alarms (e.g. Satel, DSC)
  • Security sensors and barriers (e.g. motion sensors, door sensors)
  • Virtual Devices

Magic and Lua scenes are not supported!
